For Hospitality students at The Tech Center at PNW BOCES, taking home first place in the New York State Restaurant Association’s ProStart competition was as easy as pie. The students, who had to come up with a restaurant-business plan for the competition, created The Rolling Pin Pie Shop, a specialty-pie concept. They wowed the judges at the event, which took place at Monroe College in New Rochelle on March 24-25.
“Our Management Team won the competition and will be representing New York State at the National competition in Charleston, SC, on April 29,” said Tech Center teacher Suzie Low Pratt. “We will be competing against more than 50 teams from the US, Guam, Puerto Rico, and Europe.”
This is the second year that the BOCES team has taken first place in the competition.
The winning team consisted of Vanessa Bueti, Kate Campbell, and Chelsey Cintron, all from Walter Panas High School.
The ProStart competition is one of the New York State Restaurant Association’s largest events, with top industry and post-secondary representatives from around the nation in attendance. More than 100 students, educators and industry professionals were on hand for this year’s competition.
