Teens and Tots Graduation

June 06, 2019

Rosie liked playing best. Aaron like singing. Everyone enjoyed learning new things and making new friends during the school year at Teens and Tots Preschool, the on-campus preschool at The Tech Center at Putnam | Northern Westchester BOCES. On Thursday, twelve pint-sized graduates celebrated the conclusion of a fun and successful year with songs, certificates and of course, lots of cake.

Teacher Melissa Davis thanked the families in the audience for sending their children to the school. “Today we celebrate your children,” she said.
A slideshow, created by students in BOCES’ Digital Film, Visual 7 Audio Production program, highlighted special moments from the school year.

The high school students in BOCES’ Childhood Development and Education program who had worked in the preschool all year were on hand for the festivities. “The year went by so quickly,” said junior Corie Christie of Lakeland. “It was a fun experience, and I learned the fundamentals of teaching.”

Parents took lots of photos and video, and a few could be spotted wiping away tears during the ceremony. “The teachers are so caring,” said Raba Imran, whose daughter Arfa was enjoying a slice of cake and some fruit salad. “Arfa had a great year, and I am very grateful for the program.”

The Childhood Development and Education class teaches high school students about child development, educational theory, classroom management, and education law in addition to the experience of running the on-site Teens and Tots preschool two days a week.
