Strengthening Student Voices through Writing Workshop

October 09, 2018

Students learn to see themselves as writers by collecting, drafting, revising, editing and publishing observations about their lives and the world around them. Many accomplish this during a classroom activity known as writing workshop.

Area K-2 teachers recently spent the day at Putnam | Northern Westchester BOCES to learn how to optimize their students’ experience in writing workshop. The Columbia Teachers College program, Reading and Writing Project: Units of Study in Writing, aims to help teachers grow in their own writing practice, along with their students.
The program was hosted by Curriculum and Instructional Services at PNW BOCES. A unique benefit for program participants is PNW BOCES’ support in the form of membership in the TC Collegial Circle, a leadership network providing ongoing training, site visits and literacy support planning.
