Spring Has Sprung at Student-Run Educated Palate Restaurant

Tables were set in festive spring colors, and the house was packed during a luncheon at the Educated Palate restaurant at the Tech Center at Putnam | Northern Westchester BOCES recently. The restaurant, run by Hospitality Academy students, was decked out for the annual spring luncheon.
Diners feasted on crispy-crab-cake appetizers; a main course of beef Bourguignon with pommes puree and roasted asparagus; and, for dessert, heavenly cream puffs filled with pastry cream, covered with chocolate ganache, and garnished with sugared berries and raspberry sauce.
Mahopac High School student Rob Hildrew, who plans to study hospitality in college, said he enjoys the unique aspect of the Hospitality program. “The classes are so interactive. I really like the life experience you get from working here.”
Hospitality students do everything from preparing the menu to cooking, baking, serving, and cleaning up at the restaurant.
Khadijah Amos, from Mahopac, said she loves the way the teachers in the Hospitality Academy foster independence among students. “We get to do our own thing and express our creativity in our own way,” she said.
