PNW BOCES Hosts Summer Institute for Social Studies Teachers

July 09, 2018

It’s never too early to prepare for the school year, and this week, Putnam | Northern Westchester BOCES’ Curriculum Center is holding a Social Studies Summer Curriculum Alignment Institute for eleventh grade teachers.
The program’s objective is to assist teachers in aligning their local social studies curriculum with the NYS Social Studies Framework and revised Regents exams. Over the course of four days, participants are developing a curriculum planning guide integrating the social studies standards, practices and content that students will need to be successful on the new Grade 11 Regents Exam.
Gregory Brown, Ed.D., PNW BOCES’ regional coordinator of social studies and blended learning, facilitated the summer institute. “Through this program, teachers from 17 area school districts have come together to ‘re-conceptualize’ their eleventh grade social studies curriculum in preparation for the new Regents Exam in 2020,” said Brown.
