New Visions Engineering Students Race – and Place!

February 16, 2018

New Visions Engineering students on the campus of Putnam | Northern Westchester BOCES are revved up to compete, after recently placing in the New York State Super-regional Formula 1 (F1) in Schools competition. The students’ performance in the competition, which took place at the Classic Car Club in Manhattan, made them eligible to go to the national F1 competition in Texas in June.

F1 in Schools is an international STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) competition in which students design, manufacture, and race a miniature “car” out of the official Formula 1 Model Block using CAD/CAM design tools.

Nicholas Rotunno (Somers), Carla Vera (Ossining), Daryl Stiloski (Hendrick Hudson), Alexandra Gaspar (Mahopac), John Henry Genualdo (Somers), Christian Rivera (Mahopac), and Michal Baran (Mahopac) all played a role in the competition. Baran designed and built the model car, and his teammates helped with other aspects of the competition.

“For the upcoming Texas competition in June, five of us will design a car, and we will vote on the one to race in the competition,” Baran said. The students will hold fundraising activities for the event.
