Fox Meadow Students Deliver Holiday Happiness to Blythedale

December 19, 2018

When Fox Meadow teacher Brian Bucchignano came to PNW BOCES 14 years ago as a teacher’s aide, one of the best parts of his job was helping his mentor, Fox Meadow teacher Phil Ammann, collect, wrap and deliver presents to Blythedale Children’s Hospital with BOCES students. Since Ammann’s retirement, Bucchignano has been heading up the endeavor, garnering donations from the BOCES community of new toys each year and helping students to sort, wrap and deliver the gifts as the community service part of their curriculum at Fox Meadow.

“Not only do the children at Blythedale love receiving the gifts,” Bucchignano said, “but my students love going there to give out the gifts. The students who did it last year couldn’t wait to go back. Their enthusiasm for this project is incredible. It really is a special event.”

This year Bucchignano and fellow staff members and students delivered 160 gifts to the children at Blythedale. “Our students got to see the children’s faces as they opened up the presents,” Bucchignano said. An additional 100 gifts collected will be donated to Four Winds Hospital in Katonah.

Bucchignano is quick to point out the importance of the generosity of the BOCES community. “Without the assistance of the students, who diligently worked at wrapping and handing out presents, and the generosity of our staff, this annual giving event would not be possible.”
