Putnam|Northern Westchester BOCES anticipates a full time vacancy for a Bilingual Special Education Specialist to provide technical assistance and support through training, consultation and coaching to school districts in implementing and sustaining effective evidence-based systems, practices and services for students with disabilities who are English language learners.
Additionally, this position will be responsible for:

  • working collaboratively with regional technical assistance providers and special education school improvement specialists in data collection and assessment of school districts’ systems of supports and services for students with disabilities who are English language learners.
  • providing regional trainings on NYSED regulations and on effective instructional practices and programs for bilingual/English language learners (ELLs) with suspected or identified disabilities.
  • participating in statewide workgroups and trainings as established by the NYSED Office of Special Education.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree in special education, psychology, school psychology, reading or speech and language; and
  • At least three years direct teaching or related service experience with students with disabilities
  • NYS certification in special education, speech and language disabilities, school psychology or reading; and
  • NYS bilingual education extension or certification in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages.

DUTIES:
Putnam|Northern Westchester BOCES anticipates a full-time need for a Database Assistant to join our Special Education Department.
Candidate responsibilities to include:

  • Manage online eSchool Data (ESD) student information database on behalf of the Special Ed dept. Info includes class locations, student enrollment and attendance, staff assignments, etc.
  • Coordinate new student referral database. Catalogues and monitors requests from school, ensuring supervisors review and take timely action. Enroll in ESD if student is accepted.
  • Analyze student data in ESD and the BOCES billing system (IEP Direct) to ensure accurate and timely billing. Works with building level staff and supervisors as needed to ensure consistency.
  • Provides day-to-day support to building level staff to ensure the accuracy of information in ESD. Conduct training sessions as needed.
  • Maintains Child Nutrition data through the Mosaic system for the Special Education department. Works with building level staff to ensure accuracy of student reporting.
  • Works with HR Personnel Assistant to ensure HR understanding of current and future staffing needs based on current student enrollments and possible acceptance of new student referrals.
  • Works with HR to ensure accuracy of required annual State Reporting based on information in ESD (BEDS data, School Climate Information, Teacher Roster Verifications).
  • Other duties as defined by the Director of Special Education (student enrollment trending analysis, attendance projections, ESD training schedules, analysis of new student referrals, etc.)

Knowledge of Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) and evidence-based practices in the areas of literacy instruction, behavioral supports and interventions and specially-designed instructional practices is preferred.
