Hello, everyone. The activity of trading resources among geographic areas was a big hit with my kids. However, when I sent the worksheet home, some confusion arose. Has anyone out there modified the sheet or given certain instructions along with it? I've cut and pasted the relevant sections here with commentary in bold to distinguish it from the worksheet text:
1.) Classify the following items as natural resources (NR), human resources (HR), or
capital resources (CR).
Mechanic
Wool Sweater
Coffee Beans
Sheep
Farmer
________
________ ________ ________ ________
COMMENT: WHAT KIND OF RESOURCE IS A SWEATER, AND WHY? IS A SWEATER EVEN A RESOURCE?
2.) In the photos above, 3 resources are needed to make one product. Explain what these
3 resources are, and how they are related.
COMMENT: I ASSUMED IT WAS THE FARMER AND THE SHEEP REQUIRED TO MAKE THE SWEATER. BUT THAT'S 2 RESOURCES TO MAKE A THIRD... AND THE THIRD (THE SWEATER) CAN BE INTERPRETED AS A PRODUCT NOT A RESOURCE, NO?
3.) In the activity done in class, what types of resources did people make, buy, sell, and
trade? Fill in the chart.
IT WAS UNCLEAR TO THE KIDS HOW THEY WERE SUPPOSED TO FILL IN THE CHART. WAS THERE TO BE ONE TYPE OF RESOURCE IN EACH BOX?
Thanks,
Matt
