I really like the idea of the students filling in the map of New York in this unit. However, each time I use it there is confusion with many of the students,and I get notes from the parents that they don't know what to label because the map and list don't match. Is there an updated version of the map or of the list that accompanies it? I am assuming that the map was taken from enchantedlearning.com where there is a similar more simplified version.
Here's where some of the confusion is:
The lists calls for labels of the :
Mohawk River - it is not represented on the map
St. Lawrence River - it is not represented on the map
Niagara River - not represented on the map
New York Bay - where would they label this?
The Taconic Mountains are not represented on the map.
There are symbols on the map for Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse, New York City and Niagra Falls but they are not on the list.
Other places not on the list are the states/country that borders New York.
Could the map and or the list be changed to match each other in an effort to alleviate the confusion?
Is anyone else experiencing these problems or are they altering the map/list themselves?
