Unit 2- Family Enrichment
After reading the book The Quiltmakers Gift the children can create a family quilt square using 5 x 5 fabric or paper. The children can use materials such as: sequins, fabric, puffy paint, buttons, photos, drawings, stickers, foam, and any other art materials. Each square that is created represents the child’s family. They put things on the square that their family likes to do such as activities/hobbies. They should put their family name(s) on their square. If you sew, you can sew the quilt squares together and create your own “ Class Family Quilt ”. If you “glue”, you can “glue” the pieces together to create a paper quilt. For children who do not have the access to art materials at home, you can let them do it in a center in the classroom.
