PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT WORKSHOPS

SEPTEMBER 2006

Dear Colleague,

The Putnam/Northern Westchester BOCES Curriculum Center is looking forward to providing teachers, teacher leaders and administrators with a comprehensive set of professional development opportunities to support quality instruction and leadership in the 2006/2007 school year.

This year, we are not only addressing the needs of school administrators through leadership courses, but we are also responding to requests from teachers to focus several workshops on specifi c content and processes. Teachers, administrators and school leaders will learn strategies to build capacity to improve student achievement. We have again scheduled meetings for middle school and high school department chairs.
We will welcome outstanding national and international presenters along with regional leaders with expertise in areas such as technology, literacy, leadership, data analysis, mathematics, science and differentiated instruction. This year we are offering a variety of 15-hour after-school courses. Each course may qualify for in-service credit according to your district’s policy.

Many thanks to the Curriculum Council, comprised of assistant superintendents for curriculum and instruction and other curriculum leaders from our member districts that worked with us to design these quality staff development opportunities for you. Member districts are: Ardsley, Bedford, Brewster, Briarcliff, Byram Hills, Carmel, Chappaqua, Croton-Harmon, Eastchester, Elmsford, Garrison, Haldane, Hendrick Hudson, Katonah-Lewisboro, Lakeland, Mahopac, North Salem, Tarrytown, Ossining, Pleasantville, Putnam Valley, Somers, Yorktown and Putnam/Northern Westchester BOCES.

To help districts track PDP requirements, at the end of each workshop series, participants will receive a certifi cate indicating the number of hours they completed. We remind teachers that these certifi cates should be submitted to their districts.

It is our pleasure to work with you in the 2006/2007 school year.

Sincerely,

MARLA GARDNER- DIRECTOR OF CURRICULUM AND INSTRUCTIONAL SERVICES
JUDY POWERS- CURRICULUM/STAFF DEVELOPER
LAUREN ALLAN- PRESIDENT, PUTNAM/NORTHERN WESTCHESTER CURRICULUM COUNCIL
