TESOL Certification Pathway


In a K-12 setting, Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) offers teachers autonomy, opportunities to collaborate, variety in teaching settings and methods, and the opportunity to work with students and families from diverse backgrounds. Teachers of English to speakers of other languages (ESOL) are often advocates for their students and trainers of their colleagues in the mainstream.

REQUIRED COURSES OF THE PROGRAM ARE:

  • Methods of TESOL (EDU 5204)
  • Methods of Teaching ESL in the Content Areas (EDU 5216)
  • Grammer of English for ESL Teachers (EDU 5200)
  • Linguistics (EDU 5202)
  • A Course in Teaching Literacy *

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Content Specialty Test in ESOL
  • Dignity for All Students Act (DASA) Workshop
  • 12 Credits in Foreign Language *

* Any relevant courses you have taken anywhere, undergrad, grad, anytime, may count towards these requirements.
